P450 Catalyst fuzz / octave fuzz / swell

This one was complicated. After weeks of building, testing, tweaking, testing and rebuilding, I finally finished the P450 Catalyst today. It's a clone of the Prescription Electronics Experience.

The swell circuit is an adaptation of a 60's design that only ever worked when connected to certain valve amps (DC-coupled input stage).
Some owners of the Experience had reported that they never managed to get the swell circuit working - and that just wouldn't do! My swell circuit works with any amp.

Some people have expressed an interest in this pedal without the swell circuit. I can make it with or without, whichever you prefer.

We've had confirmation that the OC-2 clone pedal has arrived safely in San Diego!

Apart from applying the decals, waiting to hear that a pedal has actually arrived at its destination and not been lost in the post is the most stressful part of the process.

We kept the design under wraps as we wanted it to be a surprise.

The colour scheme and design is based on the San Diego Bruins ice hockey team, and 22 is the shirt number he wears.

This is the moment Paul Archer was given his Burning Bush dual fuzz machine last night.
I think he liked it.

Paul is a supremely talented and experimental musician and artist and a TOP bloke. He's thrown all the usual constraints of 'standard' songwriting out the window and is reinventing it in his own distinctive way. His project, Burning Codes is one of our favourite bands, so it was an absolute pleasure to make him a pedal.

It caused quite a stir among the gathered musicians. Nick Finn (a former member of Burning Codes) was guesting on guitar for their show last night and he was keen to have a go with the Burning Bush. He scampered off with it like a kid with a new toy and before we knew it, it was on stage and plugged in. That must be the fastest turn-around ever for one of our pedals! Delivery to gigging in less than an hour.

As the last song of their set came to a chaotic (in a good way) crescendo, Nick kicked the pedal on and started twiddling like crazy. It made some great sounds with the acoustic guitar he was playing. The end of the song turned into a fantastic full-on wig-out. Everyone was getting into it - lots of head nodding onstage and in the audience.
In the end, everyone else had left the stage, but Nick was there, with his back to the audience, getting the most fantastic feedback. I think he would have stayed there all night (and we would have stayed to listen) but all things must end. The hearty barrage of cheering and clapping was quite an uplifting way to end the night.

    About me

I'm Mark. I LOVE effect pedals. I started out making them for myself. I have 'quite a few'.
Then I made a few pedals for friends, then everyone.

With some help from the missus we'll keep you updated on work in progress and any news.
