I made this for a quite experimental artist who was looking for something to make wicked sounds. I think this fits the bill.
Suzy shot this sneaky video while I played around with it.
It's a Fuzz Factory and Red Army Muff in one pedal. I made this for a quite experimental artist who was looking for something to make wicked sounds. I think this fits the bill. Suzy shot this sneaky video while I played around with it.

Tonight I thought I'd share with you the fiddly (and often stressful) process of applying the decals to pedals. So I had the missus take some photos while I worked on the current batch.
At this stage in the process, the boxes have already been painted and had at least 2 coats of lacquer - you need a high-gloss finish to apply them. They also have the side holes, for jacks and power supply drilled. I then apply the decals VERY CAREFULLY (see pics below), brush with a setting solution and leave to dry overnight. Once they are dry, I search for any air bubbles, pop them with a scalpel and apply more setting solution. Leave to dry overnight again. Only then can I seal the whole thing with a coat of gloss lacquer and finish with matt, satin or gloss lacquer. Drying time for lacquer coats is approx 2-6 hours per coat, depending on whether I use acrylic or enamel. Once ALL that has been done, with the associated drying times, the pedal box faces can be drilled accurately for all the knobs, sockets and switches. The rest of the internal build can then begin. So if you've ever wondered why it takes a long time to produce a hand-made pedal, you now have a little insight into what's involved just in making them look nice. I know people like to see their pedals being 'born' and know where they are in the build process, so here's a bit of an update on some of the ones I'm working on right now. It's been a busy week this week, so I haven't had a whole lot of time free to work on the pedals. Still, they're coming along. This week has mostly been spent applying graphics, getting the boxes laquered, holes drilled out and most of the knobs and foot switches fitted. There are some LEDs still to go in and the circuit boards and other internal parts to be put in place and wired in. Then it's on to testing. ![]() Burning Bush - dual fuzz machine Foot switches and LEDs still to go in, plus internal build. ![]() P450 Catalyst Two LEDs to go in, plus internal build. ![]() Chevron 1 LED going at the top. Looking good with white knobs. ![]() Space Cake Knobs and switches all done. Internal build can start. ![]() Mean Green Blending Machine - ready for internal build. ![]() Custard Cream - Box painted lovely custard yellow, graphics ready to be applied. Exciting stuff! The first 2 Butterfly Effect Pedals t-shirts are finished and on the way to their new homes. Hopefully they'll arrive very soon and they'll love them.
Great to hear that the Ring-o-Roses Rat clone has arrived at its new home and is being enjoyed by its new owner already.
Another delivery of parts arrived today, which will enable me to finish a few pedals that are in the works.
Got a delivery of supplies today. Pedal enclosures, knobs (no laughing at the back) and lots of lovely polystyrene capacitors.
More to come... No, it's not a 'personal' problem. I don't need to visit the doctor. It's just a good excuse to use the word knob. ;-)
I do however, need your help. Question: black or white knobs on these two pedals? I can't decide. |
